This exceptional MR-G model expresses the “strength and beauty” of Japan through a design inspired by a traditional katana tsuba (sword guard), crafted by the renowned metal engraver Masao Kobayashi.
On a Japanese sword, the tsuba is positioned between the blade and the handle, serving both as a protector for the hand and as a highly artistic decorative element.
Artisanal Engraving by Master Masao Kobayashi
The bezel is designed to resemble a tsuba and features Kobayashi’s intricate engraving of a phoenix, executed using the traditional shishiaibori deep-relief carving technique.
In Japanese culture, the phoenix is a symbol of peace, prosperity, and good fortune, and has long been used as a motif in samurai armor and weaponry.
Design Details & Symbolism
The bezel color represents Kurogane-iro, the deep, blue-black tone that appears on iron when heated at high temperatures. Four emeralds are set into the bezel screws, said to enhance inner strength and add a refined brilliance to the bold exterior. The case surface pattern evokes nie, the crystalline texture seen in the hamon temper line of a Japanese sword blade. The crown and buttons employ the Clad Guard Structure for enhanced durability.
Premium Materials & Construction
The DuraSoft rubber band offers superior resistance to discoloration, dirt, and aging, while providing a soft and comfortable feel on the wrist. The titanium clasp undergoes both deep-layer hardening and brown AIP coating, delivering remarkable strength and scratch resistance.
About Master Engraver Masao Kobayashi
Masao Kobayashi is a third-generation metal artisan (kazari-shi) based in Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture. After studying traditional metal engraving in Kyoto, he has worked extensively on restoration of cultural properties, metal fittings for temples and shrines, and the creation of tea utensils and fine art metalworks. He is widely recognized as one of Japan’s leading contemporary metal craftsmen.

You can cancel your order before shipping. Please note that payment fee, about 6% of the item price, would not be refunded once your order is confirmed. If cancellation is caused by our reasons, you receive full refund.
Return
We accept returns of any items within 5 days from the day it is delivered, as long as the item is “as new and unworn". Items must be in the same condition as received and must include all documentation, packaging and any other addition originally shipped. You would receive a refund after we check if items' conditions are met, and payment fee, about 6% of item price, would be charged. Also you have to pay for and arrange return shipping to us in Japan.
All our watches are warranted by Time Japan (Willaid, inc.) for a period of twenty-four (24) months from the date of purchase. The warranty covers material and manufacturing defects existing at the time of delivery of the purchased watch (“defects”). During the warranty period, you will have the right to have any defect repaired free of charge. In the event that repairs are improper to restore the normal conditions of use of your watch, guarantees its replacement by a watch of identical or similar characteristics.
This warranty does not cover:
- the life of the battery;
- normal wear and tear and aging (e.g., scratched crystal; alteration of the color and/or material of non-metallic straps and chains, such as leather, textile, rubber; peeling of the plating);
- any damage on any part of the watch resulting from abnormal / abusive use, lack of care, negligence, accidents (knocks, dents, crushing, broken crystal, etc.), incorrect use of the watch and non-observance of the use;
- indirect or consequential damages of any kind resulting from e.g., the use, the non-functioning, the defects or the inaccuracy of the watch;
- the watch handled by non-authorized persons (e.g., for battery replacement, services or repairs) or which has been altered in its original condition. Any further claim against Time Japan (Willaid, inc.) e.g., for damages additional to the above-described warranty is expressly excluded, except mandatory statutory rights the purchaser may have against the manufacturer.
